Filipa Ferreira

Filipa Ferreira is an Associate Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon (IST-UL), where she has lectured since 2001 in the scientific area of Hydraulics, Environment, and Water Resources. She holds degrees in Civil Engineering (1996), Sanitation Engineering (Master’s, 2000), Civil Engineering (PhD, 2006), and Habilitation in Civil Engineering (2024). She is a researcher at CERIS – Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability.

Her main areas of expertise include: water distribution and wastewater/stormwater drainage systems; water quality and pollution control; modelling; early warning systems; urban resilience and sustainability; water and wastewater treatment; and water reuse.

She is the author of several book chapters, over 40 scientific and technical articles, and various technical reports. She has supervised dozens of masters and doctoral theses, notably in wastewater drainage and sanitation. She has been a Member of the European Water Association (EWA) Technical and Scientific Committee since 2017. She integrates the Executive Committee of the Specialization in Sanitary Engineering of the Order of Engineers since 2022. She is a founding partner of “Hidra, Hidráulica e Ambiente” (established in 1992), and managing partner of Vflow.Ges, “Gestão Avançada de Sistemas de Saneamento e Ambiente” (established in 2007).
