Vacancies are filled as applications are evaluated and approved, therefore vacancies are not guaranteed for all phases.

Requirements

The following may apply for admission to the study cycle:

  • Holders of a master’s degree or equivalent in the areas of social sciences and humanities, physical and natural sciences, and engineering;
  • Holders of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with a particularly relevant academic, scientific, or professional curriculum recognized by the Doctoral Scientific Committee as demonstrating capacity for qualification for the doctoral degree;
  • Holders of an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum recognized by the Doctoral Scientific Committee as demonstrating capacity for qualification for the doctoral degree.

Applications must include the following documents:

For National Students or Students from an EU Member State:

  • Identity Card/Passport or Citizen Card;
  • Certificate of qualification detailing the grades obtained, duly authenticated (*);
  • Curriculum vitae and professional trajectory;
  • Photograph;
  • Supporting documents referenced in the CV;
  • Letter of motivation;
  • A letter of recommendation.

Note: A brief interview, either in person or online, is part of the candidate evaluation process.

 

For International Students:

An International Student is a student who does not have Portuguese nationality, who is not a national of a Member State of the European Union, or others who have not legally resided in Portugal continuously for more than 2 years. For more details, consult Decree-Law No. 36/2014 of March 10.

  • Personal identification document, which expressly states the candidate’s nationality;
  • A declaration, under oath, that the candidate does not have Portuguese nationality nor is covered by any of the conditions that, according to the International Student Statute (paragraph 2 of article 3 of Decree-Law No. 36/2014, of March 10), do not confer upon them the status of International Student, translated into Portuguese or English, whenever it is not issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish; (Declaration template: PT; EN)
  • Certificate of qualifications specifying the grades obtained, duly authenticated (*);
  • Curriculum vitae and professional trajectory;
  • Photograph;
  • Proof of residence issued by the country where the candidate is domiciled (*)
  • Supporting documents referenced in the CV;
  • Letter of motivation;
  • A letter of recommendation.

Note: A brief interview, either in person or online, is part of the candidate evaluation process.

(*) IMPORTANT: Documents must:

  • be translated into Portuguese or English, unless they are issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish;
  • certified by the Portuguese consular service or presented with the Hague Apostille, issued by the competent authority of the State where the document originates.
