Maria João Canadas

Maria João Rafael Canadas, PhD in Agronomic Engineering, is an Assistant Professor at Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA), University of Lisbon, and a researcher at the Center for Forestry Studies and the TERRA Associated Laboratory.

In addition to the Portuguese context, she holds teaching and/or research experience in the areas of Rural Sociology and Economics and Natural Resources in contexts such as Cabo Verde, Brazil, Angola, and Mozambique. Her main research includes collective action and governance in natural resource management; rural fires and the response of landowners and managers; rationales, management practices, and agricultural and forestry production systems; socioeconomic dynamics in rural areas; and biodiversity conservation, poverty, and agricultural and rural development.
