Pedro M. Soares

Pedro Matos Soares is an Assistant Professor with Habilitation in the Department of Geographic Engineering, Geophysics, and Energy and Principal Investigator at the Dom Luiz Institute (IDL), both at the Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon.

Pedro Matos Soares is an Assistant Professor with Habilitation in the Department of Geographic Engineering, Geophysics, and Energy and Principal Investigator at the Dom Luiz Institute (IDL), both at the Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon. Holding a PhD in Physics, he has dedicated the last three decades to the study of climate modeling, climate change, adaptation and mitigation, energy, sustainability, and artificial intelligence. Between 2018 and 2023, he led the research group “Climate Change, Atmosphere-Land-Ocean Processes and Extremes” at IDL, where he currently coordinates a research team on these topics. He has coordinated reference projects such as the National Roadmap for Adaptation 2100, the Alentejo Regional Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change, the Barcelos Municipal Plan, and co-coordinates the E-REDES Adaptation Plan. He is a member of the Portuguese Council for Climate Action, of the Scientific Committees of the PhD Program in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies, and of the Portuguese Council for Health and Environment. He is also part of advisory boards such as the Center for Sustainable Finance @ CATÓLICA-LISBON, the Impact Center for Climate Change da Fidelidade, and the Pink Circle Cities Network. He has published over 140 scientific articles and given hundreds of international and outreach presentations. He was honored with the University of Lisbon/Caixa Geral de Depósitos Award (2020), the Earth Sciences Award from FCUL (2022), and the Scientific Merit Award from FCUL (2023). He recently founded and is the CEO of PHAIR-EARTH.
