Viriato Soromenho

Viriato Soromenho-Marques (b. 1957) is a philosopher, full professor of Philosophy at the University of Lisbon, and a full member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and the Naval Academy.

He is a special advisor to Oceano Azul Foundation and president of the General Assembly of the NGO Common Home of Humanity. He is a Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator (2006). He received the 2014 Personality Award from the Portuguese Lung Foundation. He also received the “Leaders of the Decade in Sustainable Development” award from the Women Economic Forum in 2019. Since 1978, he has been involved in the causes of combating the environmental and climate crisis, peace with justice, and human rights, both in Portugal and in Europe, and globally. In these areas, which also include studies on North American federalism and European integration, he is the author of an extensive bibliography and has a diverse and long international career as a lecturer.
