Economics, Regulation, and Market

The Economics, Regulation and Markets course presents fundamental economic concepts and methodologies for designing and implementing sustainable development policies, including climate change. Particular emphasis is placed on the use of economic, market and fiscal instruments. The main topics covered include: the fundamentals of economics; the economic system; the approach to economics in environmental policies; the need for price regulation; market-based instruments; and cost-benefit assessment techniques. Students are encouraged to develop topics such as: economic modelling and assessment of the impacts of climate change; costs of stabilising emissions; economics based on mitigation and adaptation policies and the role of economic instruments.
