The Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Course aims to convey current knowledge and methodologies related to climate change adaptation and mitigation. The first part focuses on issues related to mitigation processes, with particular emphasis on mitigation policies and instruments and the climate regimes of the Kyoto Protocol, Post-Kyoto and Paris Agreement. In the second part, students are trained to develop the ability to understand current integrated assessments of climate change impacts and adaptation measures. The following topics will be covered: Climate change adaptation and mitigation; Sensitivity, exposure and vulnerability to climate change; Methods and instruments for assessing impacts and adaptation measures; Impacts of climate change on sectors: water resources, coastal systems and fisheries, agriculture (food, fibre and forest products), human health, ecosystems and biodiversity, industry, urban and rural settlements, tourism and society; Practices, options and constraints to adaptation; Greenhouse gas emission mitigation scenarios and their implications; Technological and economic potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions; Mitigation strategies in various sectors: energy, transport, residential and service buildings, industry, agriculture, forestry and waste management; Mitigation policies and instruments; Kyoto, Post-Kyoto and Paris Agreement climate regimes.
